About Citi Bike
Bicycle sharing is a convenient, flexible, healthy and fun transportation option that enhances urban livability and mobility. Citi Bike, headquartered in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, is the nation’s largest bike share system. Citi Bike operates every aspect of the program, from repairing and rebalancing bikes, to maintaining the stations and docking points, to marketing the program and educating people about bike share. Citi Bike is in the midst of expansion and plans to grow from the original 6,000 bikes in 2014 to a total of 12,000 bikes by the end of 2017.
Overview of Position:
Within Motivate LLC, the Bike Fleet Department is responsible for maintaining and repairing a fleet of over 12,000 bicycles. We continue to expand our fleet as Citi Bike extends its network of stations and docks to serve more of New York City with a safe and fun means of transportation.
As a Bicycle Fleet Attendant, you will take part in helping the Bike Fleet department move bikes and support the operations of the repair facility and field mechanic team.
Key Aspects of Position:
Follow safe work practices to create and maintain a safe working environment.
Work with all Citi Bike employees, including Drivers, Mechanics, and Bike Train Operators, under the guidance of Bike Fleet Managers to ensure that smooth operations are sustained.
Move bikes in order to keep them organized, stored and ready for processing / repair by mechanics.
Move and organize parts in the depot to ensure that mechanics have the parts they need to repair bicycles, including assembling and disassembling pallets of inventory.
Load / unload vehicles with bikes as they arrive in the depot; ensure that bikes are secured in appropriate, approved locations.
Help clean the repair facility and keep operations running smoothly.
Assist the manager on duty with miscellaneous tasks and errands (e.g. go to a nearby hardware store to buy a tool).
Perform minor part disassemblies (e.g. taking baskets apart) to recover usable parts from decommissioned bicycles.
Other duties as assigned by Citi Bike leadership.
Required Skills and Experience:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; stoop, bend, walk and stand for long periods of time.
Willingness to work outdoors and in all weather conditions.
Willingness and comfort with using the Citi Bike systems; ability to comfortably navigate Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx on a Citi Bike in all weather conditions.
Ability to effectively communicate with coworkers and supervisors both verbally and in writing.
Willingness and ability to work all shifts (AM: 7AM - 3PM / PM: 3PM - 11PM / Overnight: 11PM - 7AM) and on weekends.
Must be able to use a GPS-enabled smartphone.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Experience working in manufacturing and maintenance facilities.
Strong organizational skills.
Diligent and attentive to detail.
Self-starter with a strong sense of initiative.
Knowledge of New York City streets and geography (bonus points if you're a pro at navigating NYC streets on a bike).
Enthusiastic, all-hands-on-deck attitude; you love the idea of making Citi Bike work for hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers and visitors!
