Job Overview

Westport Axle, a subsidiary of Universal Logistics Holdings Inc., is seeking candidates for an Operations Manager opening in their facility located in Louisville, KY. Westport Axle has established themselves as one of the leading manufacturers and supply chain service providers within the heavy duty truck market. Westport Axle continues to push the boundaries of technology developing exciting and innovative products for the automotive market.

The Operations Manager will manage key activities associated with those areas of plant defined as Operations (i.e., Production, Maintenance, Engineering and Safety Departments) to continually improve and add value to the Corporation.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day operations related processes of the plant, including oversight of 3 shift supervisors
  • Customer interface at all levels of their organization as applicable.
  • Develop strategies to help the company succeed in achieving objectives and targets
  • Achieve Customer satisfaction by meeting product Quality and on-time delivery requirements
  • Provide opportunities for employees by promoting teamwork
  • Develop initiatives which result in continual processes improvement
  • Support plant’s budgetary goals by working with assigned team leaders for optimum performance
  • Review Key Performance Indicators of assigned processes and advise for continual improvement
  • Fill in for Plant Manager as position in authority when he is out of the office
  • Deals with confidential information and/or issues using discretion and judgment
  • Facilitate new project implementation
  • Act as Customer liaison throughout the project
  • Facilitate development of any new tooling required by working with Customer and tooling suppliers
  • Plan and implement any internal process changes
  • Support validation and verification requirements of the project
  • Support the Company’s Quality and Environmental policies and Management systems

Qualifications & Skills required:

  • Engineering or business related BS or AS degree and/or minimum of eight years progressive manufacturing experience
  • Specific Working knowledge of: Microsoft Office Suite, Project Management planning, and Problem Solving Tools
  • Some occasional travel may be required including nights, weekends or Holidays depending on customers schedule and requirements
  • Experience with automotive sequencing is a high preference
  • Other preferred experience is having skills associated with : Material Planning, Production Scheduling, Quality Management Systems, and Environmental Management Systems
