Job Overview

Job Summary

  • Provide professional supervision of the service department technicians resulting in safe, efficient completion of tasks related to trailer maintenance and repair, while also delivering quality workmanship to ensure our customers will return to the Client for all their trailer needs.

Responsibilities and Duties

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The lead technician will be expected to perform mechanical work as needed. (Remove and replace damaged components, Electrical repair, Brake and axle repair or replacement, Welding, Etc.)
  • Establish and maintain friendly, yet professional relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, customers, and coworkers.
  • Maintain a current awareness of work methods, standard, and technology relating to our industry.
  • Participate in vendor training and product line training sessions when offered.
  • Reinforce department standards of the procedure including safety and tool requirements.
  • Oversee the work methods used by technicians and provide instruction where appropriate to achieve maximum productivity, adherence to OSHA safety guidelines, and optimum efficiency.
  • Participate in the annual appraisal process of all technicians.
  • Facilitate a clean work environment in shop and office areas.
  • Inspect and maintain equipment in good working condition.
  • Assist in conducting monthly safety meetings.
  • Serve as initial contact for reporting work-related injuries, assist with investigating incidents resulting in injury, and follow up with corrective action when necessary to prevent similar incidents in the future.
  • Serve as customer contact for service issues by handling phone calls, walk-ins, etc.
  • Initiate service repair estimates.
  • Assist with scheduling of repair orders.
  • Communicate repair schedule with technicians.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience, Skills and Qualifications


  • Expert trailer technician skill set.
  • Must possess proper tools for use in trailer repair.
  • Mechanically inclined with the ability to troubleshoot problems and come up with suitable repair solutions.
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding and crawl underneath trailers.
  • Ability to perform some overhead lifting when replacing side sheets and roof bow supports.
  • Ability to use both hands and arms when using high power hands tools, saws, grinder, drill, etc.
  • Ability to exert 51 to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 31 to 45 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 16 to 22 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Vision good enough to do bearing inspections and welding.
  • Previous experience writing repair estimates, service planning, and problem resolution.
  • Ability to evaluate and direct employees in the development and implementation of both short- and long-term goals.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities to successful completion with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient at a basic level in Microsoft Office applications, prior experience with Karmak preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $16.50 to $22.00 /hour


  • Expert Trailer Technician: 4 years (Preferred)
