This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) Enlisted position.

Air Reserve Technicians are part of the regular civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain active membership in an Air Force Reserve unit so long as they occupy Air Reserve Technician positions. As members of reserve units, ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month. In addition, they are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Reserve units and members are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency.
Retired military are usually ineligible for membership in the Air Force Reserve. Retired military personnel who have active Air Force Reserve assignments may apply provided they show assignment (position and unit) on their application.
This is a standing register used to fill position at AFRC locations as vacancies occur. Some positions may have promotion potential to a higher grade than the grade being filled. Multiple vacancies may be filled from this announcement. The beginning and ending salaries may vary depending on location of position.
The cut-off date for these positions is the 25th of each month. Therefore, if we receive your application by midnight on the 25th of the month, you are eligible to go on the register the following month.
Some positions covered may or may not be obligated. Therefore, the selectee may be displaced by reassignment or reduction in force procedures at a later time should the previous incumbent exercise his/her reemployment rights.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Air Reserve Technician (ART) ordnance mechanic and to perform both on and off ordnance equipment maintenance, and to train reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein. Incumbent of this position will provide assistance in the following duties:
Install, modify, overhaul, troubleshoot and repair a complete missile and ordnance system including support and test equipment consisting of numerous complex integrated components.
Set up and operate software controlled automatic test equipment (ATE) to test and troubleshoot complex electronic component of missiles and ordnance systems.
Receive, store, handle and transport ammunition, rocket, unguided and guided weapons and countermeasures, demolition material, and other types of conventional ordnance.
Comply with all federal, DOD, USAF, state, and local regulations concerning hazardous material and waste including all explosive items.
Perform and certify munitions, missiles, armament and support equipment serviceability inspection duties.
Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Position may or will require incumbent to: (1) Fly in military and/or commercial aircraft in the performance of temporary duty (TDY) assignments. (2) Incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties: however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. (3) Position may require a background security investigation to determine suitability for employment and/or a security clearance.
ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The work requires frequent standing, bending, stooping, climbing, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions and in hard to reach places. The work requires lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying various sizes and shapes of components and parts weighing up 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of the job elements necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
