Job Overview

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Works outside in all weather conditions.
  • Requires independent judgment.
  • Requires ability to walk, stand, stoop, bend and work in awkward positions.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Ability to enter and operate truck and other equipment.
  • Requires eye hand coordination to operate equipment.
  • Must operate radio equipment to maintain contact with base and other employees.
  • Must create favorable impression of city workers to general public through conduct, speech and appearance.

EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (not all inclusive):

  • Drive specified route to empty dumpsters and/or rollouts into municipal truck.
  • Manually clean area adjacent to dumpsters or rollouts as required.
  • Transport loaded truck to Transfer Station and empty contents as directed.
  • Inspect truck daily prior to operation.
  • Perform operator maintenance on vehicle as required with includes, but is not limited to, cleaning interior and exterior, maintaining fluid levels, and greasing as required.
  • Maintain designated parking area in clean and hazard free condition.
  • Operate radio equipment to maintain contact with base and other employees.
  • Conduct business in such a manner as to create a positive image for the city and employees.
  • Follow all applicable safety rules.
  • Operate a variety of power and hand tools and equipment.
  • Serve as eyes and ears, reporting noticed problem areas in infrastructure and signage to supervisor.

EXAMPLES OF NON-CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (not all inclusive):

  • Performs minor dumpster maintenance and upkeep as necessary.
  • Fills in for other workers during their absence.
  • Performs other additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

  • Basic mechanical knowledge.

SKILLS:

  • Skill in operation of vehicle and lifting equipment.

ABILITIES:

  • Ability to speak, understand, read and write in the English language.
  • Ability to safely operate equipment outdoors and within the Transfer Station.
  • Ability to life and carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Ability to perform tasks in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using radio equipment.
  • Ability to interact harmoniously with general public and co-workers.
  • Ability to work alone with minimum supervision.

EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior safe driving experience and driving record.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION:

  • Must have valid Oklahoma Class B Driver’s license.

DESIRED:

  • Rudimentary knowledge of Spanish language words and phrases.
