This position coordinates with the Transportation Manager, Assistant Transportation Manager, and drivers to ensure that all routes are covered and policies and procedures are being followed, ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers served. Oversees and is responsible for a unit of drivers and specific routes, including being responsible for administering the organizational paperwork for staff and routes. This position also transports clients to and from Sertoma Centre, Inc. Provides support to the Transportation Manager and Assistant Transportation Manager in coordination of inspections, insurance cases, van routes, and other duties as assigned.
High school diploma required; Associate's Degree or prior business experience preferred.
Minimum of 23 years of age.
Valid driver’s license with good driving record and insurance documentation. Must meet PACE criteria for van driver qualifications. (Refer to form SC7.14)
Prior experience with transportation of individuals with disabilities.
Proficiency in the use of computers, software applications, and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Effective customer service skills.
Certified in First Aid and CPR.
Good judgment in driving for all road conditions (i.e., no speeding, weaving in and out of traffic, tailgating, going around railroad crossings), a good sense of directions, and ability to read all traffic signs.
Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
Ability to lift 60 pounds on occasion.
Direct a unit of van drivers to ensure the safe and timely transport of passengers to and from their destination. Supervision to include PACE reports, maintenance requests, driver evaluation rides, performance evaluations and other duties as assigned.
Complete all administrative duties assigned by the Assistant Transportation Manager.
Responsible for a specific subsection of the Transportation Department, specifically training, maintenance, insurance billing, consumer participation, or field trips.
Assist the Transportation Manager in coordinating workers' compensation cases, accident investigations and assists in coordinating communications with insurance companies, police departments, and interoffice communications.
Track fuel receipts for identification of discrepancies or misuses.
Assist in coordinating van routes for maximum efficiency and effectiveness. Consult with Transportation Manager on all route and client changes and client status.
Assist in administering First Aid treatment and ensure daily log is up-to-date.
Assist in training and coordinate in-service Defensive Driving training classes for all personnel who drive Sertoma vehicles.
Assist the Transportation Manager in coordinating local/state licensing and safety inspections of all Sertoma vehicles.
Maintain a sequential listing of assigned routes which includes names, addresses, phone numbers and emergency phone numbers of the individuals on the route and have this with them at all times.
Conduct a daily inspection of vehicles covering the following and submit the completed report to the Transportation Manager.
Check doors to see that they open and close properly.
Check contents of First Aid Kit to see that supplies are sufficient.
Check safety mechanisms such as windshield wipers, windshield washer, defroster, headlights, turn signals and "trouble blinkers" to see that they are in working order.
Check brake lights to see that they are both working, and clean the lenses for maximum visibility when the brake lights go on.
Check level of gasoline tank and condition of tires (i.e., apparent air pressure).
Check to see that emergency markers are available in case vehicle becomes disabled en route.
Check all seat belts to assure they are operable.
Report any defects or needed repairs to the Transportation Manager in writing immediately.
Report to work at designated time to ensure appropriate arrival times at work for persons served.
Provide supervision of clients while in transit including ensuring their safety and intervening in the event of any incident which may occur.
Abide by all safety rules and regulations while driving and while at the Centre including posted speed limits, traffic regulations, cell phone usage and red light cameras.
Conduct oneself in a professional manner; i.e., drivers represent role models for persons served. Respect is shown to persons served at all times.
