Standby hourly rate - $12.75/hr. NATURE OF WORK Performs a variety of routine and complex transportation work in driving vans, buses, trolleyor other city vehicles and assists with coordinating transportation plans in support of community recreation and senior adult programs; does related work as required. Essential Functions/Duties & Responsibilities The duties listed are intended only as illustrative examples of the various types of work that may be performed by individuals in this classification. Any of the following duties may be performed. These examples are not necessarily performed by all incumbents and do not include all specific essential functions and responsibilities the incumbent may be expected to perform. Represents the City of Albany by responding to the public, citizens, its employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner while continuously maintaining a positive customer service demeanor. Safely and legally operates vehicles in support of Parks & Recreation programs. Maintains transportation vehicles, including fueling, cleaning, and minor maintenance; may coordinate routine servicing and repair of assigned vehicles. Completes pre-trip and post-trip inspection of assigned vehicle and completes safety checklist. Ensures vehicle is ready for use including obtaining keys, filling vehicle with fuel, etc. Obtains appropriate tour documents prior to tour departure. Organizes passengers and ensures both personal and client safety when entering and exiting vehicles. Assists and directs passengers during Park & Recreation programs and maintains a courteous and helpful attitude with the passengers. Assists passengers with special needs as required. Serves as a guide and tour leader during course of the program. Completes vehicle maintenance check forms, trip records sheet, timecards, and other related records and reports vehicle maintenance needs or vehicle malfunctions in a timely manner. Maintains an accurate accounting of program participants on trips and tours. Reports any vehicle accident immediately in compliance with applicable law and City policy. Assists with planning trip and tour destinations, preparing itineraries, and evaluating tours. Assists with training and orientation for new drivers and trip guides. Represents the City of Albany by responding to the public, citizens, its employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner while continuously maintaining a positive customer service demeanor. Regard everyone, internal and external, as a customer and deliver the best service possible in a respectful and patient manner. Serves as a member of various City committees as assigned. Assists other staff in the performance of their duties as assigned. Maintains regular job attendance and adherence to working hours. Operates a motor vehicle safely and legally. Supervision/Lead Work Exercised This is a non-supervisory position. Lead work/coordination of the work of others is not a typical function assigned to this position. Incumbents in this position may provide training, orientation to newly assigned personnel and provide leadership to trip guides, contractual workers, or volunteers. Qualifications & Requirements a) EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and a minimum of five year's experience in operating a motor vehicle; a minimum of one year's experience operating a large vehicle (van or bus) transporting passengers is preferred; b) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and defensive driving; working knowledge and understanding of laws relating to the operation of motor vehicles transporting passengers; some knowledge of special populations and needs; knowledge and enjoyment of Northwest travel attractions is preferred. Skill in operation of tools and equipment used; Ability to safely drive large vehicles in heavily congested areas and a variety of driving conditions; drive equally as effective during nighttime as daylight hours; establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse populations, employees, supervisors, program participants including seniors and nonseniors, and the general public; communicate effectively orally and in writing; work under stress; organize a group; and read and follow a road map. c) SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Possession of valid Oregon commercial driver's license (CDL) is required. Must be comfortable working with participants of all ages including a high percentage of senior and individuals with disabilities. Must have or have the ability to obtain a current standard First Aid/CPR certification. Must be able to work various hours assigned. Must have safe driving record. In accordance with Human Resources Substance Abuse policy, incumbents in this position are subject to the City's Drug &Alcohol testing program. Qualification standards include a requirement that the individual shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of the individual or others in the workplace. The Trip/Tour Driver will be compensated at the regular wage rate while preparing the vehicle, loading, transporting, or directly supervising passengers but may have "down time" while participants are not occupying the vehicle. During these "down times", the standby pay rate will be in effect. Must be able to be trained on safe techniques of transporting clients and securing mobility devices.
