Summary: The purpose of the Transportation Supervisor is to lead, direct and supervise transportation operations and personnel and enforce the processes, protocols and KPI’s associated with receiving and dispatching inbound and outbound freight, to ensure product delivery and integrity. This includes scheduling of the existing work force to meet daily demands, participating in scheduled and non-scheduled audits, reviewing vehicle inspections and enforcing proper use of the routing system, DOT and FMCSA policies and regulations. The Supervisor also is responsible for conducting training and ensuring compliance with certifications, wage/hour laws, union rules and regulations, local state and federal food safety regulations and OSHA compliance throughout the supervised facilities/areas. The Supervisor will perform Driver duties as needed to maintain delivery schedules and meet DPI’s performance metrics (< 25% of the time). Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Supervise processes and KPI’s associated with the receiving and dispatching of inbound and outbound freight, to ensure product delivery and integrity; enforcing proper use of the routing system, DOT and FMCSA regulations and policies. Schedule work force to meet daily operational demands; verify certifications and qualifications, and monitor individual employee productivity levels. Apply interpersonal and communication skills to motivate the work force, relay growth opportunities, provide training, resolve conflicts, negotiate with union representatives, drive execution of policies and implement corrective measures if necessary to ensure productivity levels are met. Generate, use and document standard or adhoc reports to monitor operations, report on objectives, through puts and KPI’s according to DPI protocols and procedures. Maintain relationships with outside parties including vendors and customers to promote the DPI brand and identify the most efficient and cost effective policies, protocols and equipment to be implemented by DPI. Provides performance review input, write up and delivery. Monitors departmental goals to determine level of engagement. Protect DPI staff and employees by enforcing Personal Protective Equipment policies, providing training and monitoring wage/hour law compliance, assuring compliance with OSHA and union rules and regulations, and monitors compliance with, local state and federal food handling regulations. *Performs Driver functions up to 25% of the time; operate commercial vehicles, including powered tractor-trailer combinations, over local, inter- and intra-state roads and highways; perform backhauls, deliver product, perform on site customer Other Duties and Responsibilities: Maintains clean work environment, may include picking up trash or cleaning spills May perform Other duties may be assigned to fulfill DPI’s objectives Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: The employee must have proficient knowledge of English and basic math skills. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. An associate degree is preferred. 2 years’ experience in transportation services (food distribution preferred) is required. The employee must be proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Oracle or AS400 experience is preferred. Must be proficient in use of Oracle/As400 within 90 days of hire. Experience as a certified powered industrial truck (PIT) operator is preferred. Employee must be able to be certified for PIT operation by DPI. Class A drivers license strongly preferred. A minimum of 1 year of Class A or B experience is required; 2 years is preferred. The employee must qualify and retain insurance eligibility under DPI’s insurance policies, and maintain a driving record that meets or exceeds DPI’s standards. The Supervisor will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen and participate in a random drug and alcohol screening program when required by Federal or state regulations. NW, RM, West facilities only Work Environment: Exposure to variable temperatures from two different product climates (dry, cold). *Must deal with local weather when driving and delivering products. There are moderate noise levels in dock and warehouse areas. *The Supervisor is exposed to traffic noise while operating vehicles. There is exposure to diesel, gas, and exhaust fumes. Work Hours: The work schedule is either 5 days a week, 8 hours a day, or 4 days a week, 10 hours a day. Start times vary. Work hours and shifts are subject to change depending on operating business conditions and needs. The employee may be required to work overtime, holidays or weekends. Physical and Mental Demands: Light exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. This position requires frequent standing and walking. Frequent use of the upper extremities is required to reach, handle, grasp and use desk tools, paperwork, files, and operate computer systems and handle product. *Know andfollow proper safety rules and regulations when operating vehicles on roads, highways and private property. Know, apply and enforce temperature sensitive protocols (cold chain) when staging or transporting goods. Know, follow and apply DPI grooming, personal hygiene and dress code standards, including use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety items. Apply knowledge of product and storage shape and size for product storage and loading. *Exercise knowledge and skill in all situations when operating or maneuvering vehicle. Know follow and enforce protocols and regulations for proper and accurate paperwork and documentation, including delivery documentation and inspections. Know and enforce DOT and FMCSA regulations. NW, RM, West facilities only – PDL in these areas is Medium to Heavy, exerting up to 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. The Supervisor may exert pulling force of up to 75 pounds to deliver products. This is not done on a daily basis. The Fire Command Operator & Maintenance Dispatcher is responsible for receiving and relaying information, instructions and work orders to Facilities team personnel under standard and emergency conditions.
